There have been many positive reviews of
this inservice program. Many participants have suggested that there
be activities included for additional points, as well as, alterations to
the current program for fewer inservice points. Below are alternatives
that you may wish to include in the Master Inservice Plan to increase or
decrease this workshop.
For additional points:
1. Have participants visit all the websites listed on the Directory of Related Links page and write a synopsis of each website. Have them include an overview of the website and how they can use the information to enhance their teaching and learning activities.
· For 5 additional points, complete all linked resources.2. Have participants interview students in their classes to write their own "Success Stories" journal. Each student can contribute their story and the participant can compile the stories and disseminate them in class.
· For 3 additional points, complete 5 of the linked resources.
This activity can add 3 additional points to their inservice plan.
3. Have participants distribute the
"Student
Retention Reflection Journal" for a period of one week (or more if
desired). Critical thinking and reflection are vital processes that
adult students must practice and engage in. The journal will encourage
them to reflect while also reinforcing the notion that adult education
is truly concerned with assisting them in reaching their goals.
This activity can add 5 additional inservice points to their inservice plan.

For fewer inservice points:
If a participant does NOT wish to complete the entire retention inservice component as it is presented, he/she may alter the workshop and complete certain activities that will allow them to earn fewer inservice points.
To receive 5 inservice points, as opposed to 10 inservice points, complete the following components:
Component 1: Getting Started
Component 2: Determining Retention Rates
Component 3: The Reluctant Learner
NOTE: On the Login information page that is to be mailed to Marcia Maxwell, each participant MUST identify to Marcia that they are completing only components 1-3 for 5 inservice points. This is very important, as Marcia will have no other way of knowing that the participant is choosing the option of fewer inservice points.
NOTE: Please see the additional documents at the end of this file for further instructions. Projects for additional inservice points must be returned to the Program Administrator for review, not Marcia Maxwell at the DOE.
