Message from the President
2011 – Now that’s a year for the record books and one we will long

Dr. Tony Iacono, 2011-2012 ACE President
remember. On one hand, it marks the beginning of the Adult Education Career Pathways reform movement. And, on the other hand, it marks the beginning of tuition and residency mandates for Adult Education students. I’m not sure who to credit for the saying “change is the only constant” but don’t you just feel like the person must have worked in the world of Adult Education? I’ve been an Adult Education administrator for more than eight years and I’ve learned a few things along the way that continue to fill me with enthusiasm and energy. During my tenure as the Associate Dean of Developmental Education at Indian River State College, I have found that:
Our students are filled with courage and dreams that we are compelled to support. They are worth all we can give them and more!
Adult Education professionals are filled with optimism and talent and are among the most resilient people that I have ever known.
We can build an even better Florida by providing educational opportunities to all of our state residents – think literacy, jobs and civic responsibility.
We have a strong and dynamic leadership team within our Department of Education that is unrivaled in any other state.
All 67 Adult Education programs in our state change lives every day but working together we are at our best.
ACE of Florida is our professional organization that serves as the state’s leading advocate of Adult Education – ACE is the place where every voice matters!
With more than a million Floridians who need our services to secure economic independence, let’s stay focused on the power of education and career pathways. Together, we can help build a better Florida.
